Arnold Steve Cochran
Brevard - Arnold Steve Cochran, 77, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Tore's Home, Brevard, NC.
A native of Bryson City, NC, he was a son of the late C.E. (Red) and Hazel Sitton Cochran. He was preceded in death by a son Glen Alan Cochran, a brother, Lewis Cochran and a sister, Kay Evans. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Cochran was owner and operator of Pisgah Mini-Storage and Cochran Construction Company in Brevard. He built numerous buildings all over the southeast, including several churches, schools, hospitals and housing complexes. He graduated from Brevard College in 1955 and Clemson University in 1959 with a civil engineering degree.
Mr. Cochran was very active in Pisgah Forest Baptist Church where he served as a past deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Lions Club for over 40 years, past Chairman of the Board for Transylvania County Soil and Water Conservation, Member of Brevard Board of Adjustments and a founding member of First State Savings and Loan.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen Austin Cochran; two sons, Greg Cochran, and John and wife Cindy Cochran both of Pisgah Forest, two sisters; Marie Spaugh and Jean White both of Pisgah Forest, five grandsons; Jason, Nathan, Andrew, Eric and Lake Cochran and six great grand children.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Pisgah Forest Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Owings and Rev. Wayne Blackwood officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:45pm at the church.
