Brevard, North Carolina

Alfred Walker Jordan, 83, of Brevard, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015, in Transylvania regional Hospital. A native of Bloomfield, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Dorothy Jordan Greenfield. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his step-father, Harry Greenfield.
A U.S. Army Veteran, Mr. Jordan served in Panama during the early 1950's, then went on to work for the V.A. Hospital in various capacities for forty-one years. A 4th Degree Knight, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and also served as Facilities Manager for Sacred Heart Catholic Church for ten years.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary V. Jordan; children Tomas Jordan and partner Lynne Berg of Evanston, IL., Robert Jordan and partner Holly Cunningham of Perrineville, NJ., Lorraine Schoenwandt and husband Brian of Great Meadows, NJ., and Jackie Del Russo, of Apopka, FL; grandchildren Aden Jordan of Morristown, NJ., and Christine and Daniel Schoenwandt of Great Meadows, NJ.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Shawn O'Neal officiating and the Knights of Columbus participating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Transylvania County Honor Guard and the North Carolina National Guard. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will be in the Western North Carolina Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain.
