Alice Tucker

Alice Matheson Tucker, 72, of Brevard, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family after determinedly and uncomplainingly enduring years of challenging pulmonary issues.
Born in August 29, 1941 in Hickory, NC, she was the daughter of the late Judge Joe K. Matheson and Philys Rogers Matheson. In addition to her parents , her son, Kennet St. George Tucker and her sixth grandchild, Augustine W. Tucker V, preceded her into the Lord's Kingdom.
As a homemaker, she was fortunate to make her home and family and their needs, her major endeavor. Though not degreed, she was well-educated and leveraged her immense capabilities actively leading and participating in diverse church, philanthropic, and community endeavors.
Alice had a love of good food, cooking, flowers, bird watching, and most importantly, people.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Augustine "Gus" W. Tucker III of Brevard, NC; her son, Augustine W. Tucker IV of San Antonio, TX; her daughter Helen T. Herpel and husband Mark of Charlotte, NC; and her son Phillip C. Tucker and wife Amy of Fayetteville, GA.
She also leaves behind to cherish her memory are her sister, Susie Dale and husband, David, sister-in-law Ginny Matheson; and grandchildren Mary Catherine Tucker, Emily Tucker and Hannah Tucker and their mother Christine K. Tucker of San Antonio, TX; and Caroline Tucker and Jack Tucker of Fayetteville, GA. and a number of nieces, nephews, and other extended family also survive.
A memorial celebration service will be held Sunday August 3, 2014, at 3:30 p.m. at St. Phillip's Episcopal Church in Brevard, NC. The family plans a private burial.
