Alice Willimon von Stein, of Brevard, passed away at her home in Brevard on November 29, 2015. Born in Greenville, S.C. on Sept. 18th, 1916, she spent her summers on land purchased from "Uncle" Tom Fowler on Rich Mountain where her father farmed apples and cabbage. She spoke fondly of social gatherings and dances she attended in her youth at various homes in the Caesar's Head community and picnicking with family and friends at High Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack von Stein in 2001 and has now been reunited with him.
She is survived by her children: Alice Ann von Stein Booth and her husband Paul of Sumter, SC, and John William von Stein and wife Leila of Brevard; grandchildren Allison Auman and husband Calvin, Nancy Long and husband Chris, Paul M. .Booth III and wife Nancy, John Tillman Booth and wife Stephanie, Leila Gillam von Stein, John R. von Stein and Jesse von Stein and 7 great-grandchildren.
She embodied every corny virtue that has ever been attributed to motherhood and was an inspiration to us all. If you knew Alice you know that words cannot adequately convey her strength of character and the love she felt for family and friends. If you did not know her, well, you missed out. In lieu of memorials, commit a selfless act of support for someone you care about.
