Andrew Mayes

Andrew Weldon Mayes, 58, of Pisgah Forest, passed away on May 27, 2020. Born in Commerce, Texas, he was the son of Bill and Elizabeth Mayes.He graduated from Brevard High School, and with honors from UNC-Wilmington.

He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and had two tours of duty with the Peacekeepers in Beirut, Lebanon.

Survivors include his parents Bill and Elizabeth Mayes, his son Tanner Highsmith Mayes, of Brevard, his brother Matthew Mayes (Kate) and nephew and niece Matthew and Barrett Mayes of Augusta, Georgia, and his former wife Ralphine Highsmith Mayes, of Brevard.

Andy was a licensed pilot and was the happiest when flying fixed wing aircraft or his helicopter. He often said he felt the most at peace when flying.

A private memorial will be held later at Deerwoode, the home of his parents.
