Barbara Lydick Preedit, 92, of Brevard, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2020. Barbara was born in Madawaska, Maine on April 27, 1928. After leaving Maine she started her career in the Hotel Service Industry, working at many luxury resort hotels from Rhode Island to Florida. After permanently moving to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, she and her husband Nolan owned and operated a Nursery and Landscaping business before retiring to Pisgah Forest, NC. In 1983.
She is predeceased by her parents; Vernon and Ruby Hale Lydick, husband; Nolan Paul Preedit, brothers; Theron Lydick, Matthew Lydick, and Frank Lydick, sisters; Annie Lydick and Helen Dowding.
She is survived by her sister, Norma Mason (Don) of Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia Canada, and her brother-n-law, Al Dowding of Warwick, RI. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara was an avid dog and cat lover, rescuing many and giving them a home. She also enjoyed spring/summer so she could be outdoors; reading, tending to her flowers and plants, and feeding her birds and animals. Even with her physical challenge, she never complained and just enjoyed life. She stayed independent with the help of her friends and neighbors, whom she referred to as “My Village.” She could always find someone to help handle a problem, so she was able to stay in her home. She loved and was loved by so many.
Barbara had never met a stranger. Her phone was her lifeline. She was always ready to start a conversation from politics, sports, current events, you name it. She knew a little bit about everything and could give you a pretty fair fight, and she did until the end. She will be truly missed.
At Barbara’s request, there will be no funeral service. There will be a celebration of her life on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 1-3PM at the Williamson Creek Community Center.
