Barbara Calloway Prugh, 81, of Brevard passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at her home. She was born in Asheboro, NC to Lawrence M. Calloway and Ruby Cope Calloway, both of whom preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sister, Martha Sheriff and husband, Tom; her niece Kim Wall and husband Chris; her children: daughter Susan Hagen and husband Michael of Canton, MI, daughter Amy Hopper and husband Marty of Acworth, GA, and son Johnny Prugh and husband Bob Spatig of Tampa, FL; and grandchildren Katherine Hagen of Blaine, MN and Molly Hopper of Acworth, GA.
Barbara was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved her family and friends. For 18 years, she worked at the Children's Center of Transylvania County, where she helped established its programming and direction. Although she was instrumental in many aspects of the Center's work, she was especially proud of the "Baby Think It Over" program that still runs in the county high schools. She was so passionate about child welfare that she continued to volunteer at the Children's Center during her retirement and served on its board. She was also an active member of Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where she served as an elder and chaired many committees.
A memorial service with reception following will be held at Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church, 249 East Main Street, Brevard at 11am on Thursday, March 29, 2018 with Rev. Keith Thompson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Children's Center of Transylvania County, 95 South Johnson Street, Brevard: www.thechildrenscenteroftc.com .
