Bernice Buchanan

Bernice Ledford Buchanan, 92, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Transitions Life Care in Raleigh, North Caroline. She was born in Macon County, North Carolina on November 27, 1921 to the late Ransom and Elsie Cabe Ledford. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, George Buchanan, and her brothers Herrell Ledford and Kenneth Ledford.

Bernice was a graduate of Franklin High School. She was employed by Ecusta (Olin) for a short time before marrying her husband George. Afterward she often helped him in his printing shop with bookkeeping. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Brevard where she taught Sunday School for many years before moving to Atlantic, NC in 1995.

Helen is survived by her brother, Gordon Ledford of Franklin, NC; daughters Judith Robinson Calland and husband Charles of Katy, Texas and Gail Buchanan Ross and husband Ellis of Apex, NC; grandchildren Laura Robinson Goodwin and husband Charles of Sea Level, NC, Melanie Ross Parker and husband Shane of Nashville, TN, and Michael S. Ross and wife Sharon of Polkton, NC; 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service at 1 P.M. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with Rev. Paul Smith officiating.
