Lake Toxaway, North Carolina

Born January 28, 1931, Bert Jones, 86, of the Lake Toxaway community peacefully went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 24, 2017 while at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC.

He was the son of the late Ben and Mary Jones of Lake Toxaway. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two children, Rhonda Diane and Ronald Wade Jones and two grandchildren, Bradley Allen Jones and Khristi Jacqueline Jones; and two sisters, Patricia Ann and Gladys Jean. His loving survivors include children, Rose England and husband, Thomas of Franklin; Rex Jones and wife, Cheri of Lake Toxaway; Randall Jones and his late wife Nora of Lake Toxaway; Rance Jones and wife, Jaqie of Sapphire, Stuart Jones and wife, Sandy of Lake Toxaway; grandchildren, Jacob Jones of Brevard, Stephanie Sutton and husband, David of Rutherfordton, Jessica Jones of Lake Toxaway; Coleen Jones of Lake Toxaway, Carley Jones of Sapphire, Kacie England of Franklin, Keen Jones and Chloe Jones of Sapphire; great-grandchildren, Rhyland Jones of Brevard, Abby Jones and Lakin Jones of SC; and Andrew Sutton and Molly Sutton of Rutherfordton, NC. Sisters, Berdell Phillips, and her late husband, Dealous "Slim" Phillips of Tuckasegee; and Martha Burrell and husband, William "Bill", of Lake Toxaway; brothers, Charlie Jones and wife, Doris; Stanley Jones and wife, Pauline; Brodus Jones and wife, Martha; and Brandon Jones and wife, Kay, all of Lake Toxaway; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Bert was a great Daddy, wonderful Papaw, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend. He served in the US Army as a Military Policeman, worked as a Prison Guard at Calvert Prison in Rosman and retired from Ecusta as a Welder in the Maintenance Department. He was a member of North Toxaway Baptist Church and enjoyed the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. He loved to be with his hunting buddies, walking in the woods hunting for bear or 'coons, spinning yarns, or playing a mean hand of Set-Back. He enjoyed living his life on his farm raising a variety of animals, including, chickens, guineas, peacocks, doves, pigeons, pigs, donkeys, milk cows, beef cattle and his beloved registered Morgan horses, planting a garden each year, bailing hay and sitting on the front porch swing after a long day of work.

His family would like to express a sincere thank you for the loving care and kindness provided by the wonderful doctors, nursing staff and workers at the Brian Center and Transylvania Regional Hospital in Brevard, Pardee Hospital and the Elizabeth House in Hendersonville.

To honor his life, the family invites friends to join in a time of celebration and remembrance at North Toxaway Baptist Church, Monday, March 27, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the church and interment will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on Kim Miller Road in Lake Toxaway. Rev. Tommy Mullis, Jr. and Rev. Bill Bruner will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials to be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund c/o Laverne Moore, 230 Old Quebec Road, Lake Toxaway, NC 28747.
