Betty Daves

August 29, 1953 — May 8, 2022

Brevard, NC

Betty R. “Sue” Daves, 68, of Brevard, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022. A native of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late John and Minnie Mason Raines. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her sister, Rebecca “Becky” Galloway.

Known to many people around Transylvania County simply as “Mama Sue” or “Sweet Sue”, Sue loved people…and people loved her. Her endearing charm and wit made her a great friend to many. She loved to cook, and she enjoyed crafting: sewing and quilting, but photography most of all. She had too many pictures of people and places around Rosman and Transylvania to count.

But her greatest love was her family: her husband and soulmate, J.C., her children and grandchildren…her “best friend” and grandson, Mason; Her family was truly the love of her life!

Her loving survivors include her husband Jessie Daves; her children: Billy McCoy (Nicole) of Brevard, daughter Tanya McCoy (Stacy Whitmire) of Brevard of Brevard, Chris Daves (Anne) of Brevard, Amy Galloway (Phillip) of Brevard, Tim Whitmire of Brevard, Richard Whimire of Hendersonville and Becky Whitmire of Brevard; 7 grandchildren: Chayse Lewis, Tyler Williams, Maleah Hawkins, Mason Galloway, Elizabeth Daves, Tanner Whitmire, Langston Whitmire, Gabriel Whitmire and Christopher Daves; her sisters Ida Claudette Jarrett, Gladys Ethelene Bullock (Lynn),Helen Louise Raines and her brother John Earl Raines (Cindy).
