Brenda Spillman

Brenda Galloway Spillman, 74, of Pisgah Forest, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016, at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock. A native of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Ida Owen Galloway. Brenda was also preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Galloway, Ivan Galloway, and Clyde Galloway, and her sisters, Delphine Donnelly, Christine Wilson, Ethel Poole, and Phylliss Constantine.

After graduating from Brevard High School, she received a Bachelor's Degree from Berea College in Berea, KY, and her Master's Degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Over the course of her career, Brenda served our community through positions at Transylvania Vocational Services, the Transylvania County Library, and the Holly Library at AB-Tech. She retired in 2015, after having celebrated twenty years with the James B. Jones Library at Brevard College.

Community involvement was not limited to Brenda's work in libraries. She was a founding member of the Davidson River Lions Club, serving proudly for 25 years. The chapter honored her as "Lion of the Year" for 2005-2006. She also found great joy working in the nursery at Brevard First United Methodist Church for more than thirteen years.

Brenda is survived by her daughter, Cindi Spillman, of Pisgah Forest; sisters, Brona Dunn, of Tavernier, FL, Sylvia McCrary and husband, John, of Pisgah Forest, Sue Maness of Etowah, Shirley Tinsley and husband, Calvin, of Pisgah Forest, Patricia Hampton of Pisgah Forest; brother-in-law, Gus Constantine, of Brevard; special niece Barbara Brown, of Brevard, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 4, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at Pisgah Forest Baptist Church.

A memorial service celebrating Brenda's life will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2016, 7 p.m. at Brevard First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Carolinas ALS Center, 1010 Edgehill Road North, Charlotte, NC 28207, and will be designated for research funding. Memorials sent to Berea College, CPO 2216, Berea KY, 40404 will be designated for the Ida Owen Galloway Scholarship Fund. In either case, please include Brenda's name with your correspondence.
