Calvin "Sarge" Raines

Brevard - Calvin "Sarge" Raines, 83, died Monday, September 19, 2011 tragically in an automobile accident.
Calvin was born in Brevard, NC to the late Leo and Polly Hogsed Raines. He was also preceded in death by his brother Douglas Raines and his sisters Louise Raines Moffit and Christina Raines.
He served in the US Army for six years and was a Korean War era veteran. He worked in the Washington, DC area as an electrician for many years before retiring and moving back to Brevard, NC. He was a "character" who teased the clerks in the grocery stores and the nurses in the VA Hospital and the waitresses at the Fish Camp. He was an avid NASCAR fan and an American patriot down to the core.
Missing him here are his two sisters; Janette Ziegler and her husband Charles and Jennie Wilde and her husband Kadez, all of Brevard, NC. Four nephews; Russell Ziegler and his wife Vivien; Van Ziegler and his wife Joan; Greg Wilde and his wife Cindy; and Timothy Wilde and his wife Ashley, four nieces; Rhonda Brown and her husband Kenny; Sandi Jones and her husband Frank; Gail Smith and husband Rostand; and Sharon Wilde, also a sister-in-law; Mary Raines. He will also be missed by his very close friends Betty Sanford, Virginia Lanning, and Geneva Galloway, Jimmy D. and many great nieces and nephews and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Friday, September 23, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home in the Chapel with Rev. Kadez Wilde and Rev. Tommy Owen officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at Pisgah Gardens.
