Lake Toxaway - Carl Lee Callahan went home to be with his Lord, at the age of 91.

Carl was born October 3, 1918 in Cherokee, NC, son of the late Fannie and Wesley Callahan. He was preceded in death by his wife: Donna Vee, a brother Fred Callahan, five sisters: Cora Wright, Myrtle Hudson, Verna Epard, Louise Hudson and Sarah Beth Summey. He was born in a logging camp and started working at the age of twelve and has remained in that business all his life.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving most of the time in the Philippines, New Guinea and Japan. He returned home to North Carolina and one year later he moved to Portland, Oregon where he could make more money. After retiring he moved back to Quebec, NC.
Carl's second career and love was singing, playing the guitar and bass. He was part of a traveling group of six and sang and played for benefits and churches.
Carl is survived by his wife Betty Oliver Callahan, two sons: Elwin Callahan and his wife Jane of Philomath, Oregon, and Geary Callahan of Oregon, two step-daughters: Karen Lynn Malcom and husband Robert of Vero Beach, Fl and Lori Ann Lavery and husband Mark of Brevard, NC, one brother: Clyde Callahan and his wife Alice of Six Miles, SC, three sisters: Gaynell Fisher of Pickens, SC, Mary Lee Hall of Sylva, NC, and Glyda Galloway of Oregon, Fay Gray, Geneva Olson and Reta were raised by his family as their own, two grandsons, seven step-grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at East Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Alan Callahan officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM-3:00PM prior to the service.
