Carol Tyson

Carol Webb Tyson, age 78, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020. Carol suffered for over a decade with advancing Alzheimers and died due to complications from her diagnosis.

Carol came to Brevard in 1970 as a newlywed with her husband, Jim and their two small children, Heather and Jimmy.

She was a nurse before she got married and had children and she kept that sense of service to others throughout her life. She took care of all of us and when Jimmy, her 10-year-old son, died of Cystic Fibrosis, she found the strength to move forward in love and community. She found a place of peace and acceptance at St Philip’s Episcopal Church where she could usually be found typing up the Church bulletin, singing in the choir, or working in the thrift shop. That would be the old thrift shop on Main Street — it was tiny, and she was constantly rearranging it to make more room!

She was kind and generous and giving. For 50 years, in countless ways, she was an active member of the Brevard community. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

Carol is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, James Tyson, her daughter, Heather and son-in-law, Joey and two granddaughters, Emma and Anna Joe Tynch.

We, those left behind, take great joy in the knowledge that Carol is being welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven by her son, Jimmy, and the many loved ones we’ve lost throughout the years. She is at peace and together, they “shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Finally, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the entire community of Brevard for their support. You were kind and generous as Alzheimers dimmed Carol’s light. We thank you for every kind word, every encouraging smile, every moment of patience. At the end of each day, she only remembered that sense of kindness and acceptance.

To the staff at Tore’s Home, and in the end, Hospice, you treated her with love and respect when we could not be there. Words cannot express our thanks. In these extraordinary times, you gave us comfort and security.

We will invite friends and family to celebrate Carol’s life when we are able, once again, to gather together. Until that time comes, please remember her by continuing on with this community’s kindness and generosity of spirit. She would have loved that!
