Carolyn McKay Cowart, 77, of Brevard, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2020. A native of Ferriday, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late John Herbert and Bertha T. McKay. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Bethany Cobb, and her sister, Leanda Partin and her nephew, John Bradley Brashear.
A member of the Sweet Adelines singing group, she loved to sing at home and in church. She also had a great heart for mission work, working in the WMU, and worked to support the Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong Offerings.
She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and playing softball; but she also loved cooking and hosting gatherings of friends and family as well as quilting, something she had first learned to do with her mother.
Her loving survivors include her husband, Jimmie Cowart; children Johnny Cowart and Kelly Cobb and husband Steve; grandchildren Rachel, Anna, and Cassidy Knye; her sister Jan Brashear and nieces Brenda LeJeaune, Christy Cowart Smith and Melissa Cowart Hunter; brother and sister-in-laws Charles and Pat Cowart.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Cowart will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, January 31, 2020 in the chapel of Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations with Rev. Charles Cobb and Rev. Tom Osterhaus officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until noon, prior to the service. Interment will follow at Old Toxaway Baptist Church Cemetery.
