Charles Thomas Bradshaw, known by “Charley” or “Tom,” died on Sunday, May 22, in Brevard, NC at the age of 88. He was born in Bluefield, WV to the late Harry C. and Rose Bradshaw and was also preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Randolph Bradshaw and his sister, Janice Ames.
He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, but especially by his beloved wife Ruth Anne, sister-in-law Alice Bradshaw, and children John, Steve, and Christy.
He was known to be humble and studious and was self-sacrificing of his time and efforts for his family and others. Charley knew Christ by being a student of the Bible reading it “cover to cover” for the first time at age 12. Later he was a member of the “Official Board” for First United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, WV, was an elder for Davidson College Presbyterian Church, was active in the Witness Committee, and enjoyed serving as a Sunday school teacher for teenagers. Charley knew that the bridge to heaven was built on two pillars: 1) the miracle of Jesus’s Immaculate Conception and 2) His death and resurrection.
His love of the outdoors led him to become an Eagle Scout, and he enjoyed deer hunting on the family “farm” with his sons in Highland County, Virginia. He volunteered as an official at his sons’ swim meets for over 10 years, aided by his God-given booming voice that could easily be heard when the starter’s speaker failed. Charley graduated from University of Virginia in Physics, was an officer in the Navy, worked at Dupont in Parkersburg, WV for 25 years, retired from Americhem in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and then consulted with plastics manufacturers to attain their A2LA and ISO 9000 certifications.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on June 4, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Brevard.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Sharing House, P O Box 958, Brevard, NC 28712 or go to www.sharinghouse.org.
