Charles "Chuck" Dunbar, 51, of Brevard, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away June 4, 2017, after a courageous, almost year-long battle with cancer. Chuck was outgoing, dependable, honest, generous, and hardworking.
Chuck spent his childhood in Lorain County, Ohio, as well as in multiple locations in the southeast while his father was active in the United States Marine Corps. He later managed various gas stations and restaurants in northern Ohio, including one on Lake Erie in Vermilion, and most recently served as Operations Director of Zaxby's restaurants in North Carolina and Virginia.
He and Kimberly met in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1997, and were married the following year. Chuck, Kimberly and their daughter, Sophie, moved to Brevard about six years ago. During his time here, Chuck met many people in the community through his work with Zaxby's and his involvement in Brevard Rotary Club.
Chuck worked long hours and traveled often, yet he made time to do things he enjoyed. He loved taking his daughter Sophie on fun outings, spending time with friends, announcing Brevard College games for WSQL radio, reading the paper, and watching movies. He also fondly remembered a trip he and his family took to South Africa in 2007.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Kimberly Dunbar, daughter, Sophie, and mother-in-law, Barbara Hotaling all of Brevard; daughter Angela Ludvik and her son Lukas, of Mentor, OH; mother, Sandra Dunbar, sister, Kelly Dunbar, and brother, Mike Dunbar, all of Lorain County, OH; sister- and brother-in-law, Heather and Jo Hotaling of Melbourne, Australia; dear friends Drew Stevens, Jonathan Stoll, and Drew Stewart, all of Brevard, Patrick Combs of Waynesville, and Jim Rodgers of Athens, GA; and many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Leonard Dunbar.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, with Rev. Mary Hinkle Shore officiating. A reception at the church will follow the service, at which time the family will greet friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be directed to the Dunbar Benefit Account, Fifth Third Bank, 567 North Broad Street, Brevard NC 27812, or to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd for Outreach Ministries, 22 Fisher Road, Brevard NC 28712.
