Christopher Lee Phillips

Mills River - Christopher Lee Phillips, 37, died of a heart attack on April 1, 2008 in Israel. Chris was realizing his dream of visiting the Holy Land with his family, pastors, and church family. He walked in the steps of his Savior; now he walks with his Savior.

A native of Henderson County, he was the son of Jimmy and Annette Phillips of Mills River. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harry and Dera Nicholson, and James and Clota Phillips, as well as a special cousin, Mona Williams Quinn.

Chris was a 1988 graduate of West Henderson High School and was a former choir director at Cummings Memorial United Methodist Church, Horse Shoe, NC, and at Rockwell United Methodist Church, Rockwell, NC. He was a member of Brevard Community Church, and with his wife, owned Chris 'N' Crew Complete Lawn Care. Chris coached soccer for Henderson County Parks and Recreation, an activity he enjoyed with his daughter and her friends. He served as a trustee for Holly Springs Union Chapel, Horse Shoe.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Karen Brown Phillips of the home; daughter, Holly Phillips of the home; sister, Beth Simpson of Brevard; brothers, David Phillips of Durham and Rick Phillips and wife Shelia of Dana; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Carolyn Brown of Dana; sister-in-law, Teresa Webb of Dana; brother-in-law, Roger Brown and wife Sveta of Bob's Creek; 4 nieces and 2 nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3:30 PM Sunday at Brevard Community Church with the Rev. Todd Alewine officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:30 Sunday at the church, and other times the family will be at the home.

The graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday at Campground Cemetery, Horse Shoe.

A scholarship fund will be set up for his daughter, Holly Phillips. Contributions may be sent c/o Brevard Community Church, P.O. Box 2216, Brevard, NC 28712.
