Cormack Joseph "CJ" Dolan
Cormack Joseph "CJ" Dolan, 80, of Pisgah Forest, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2009 at his home.
He was born in New York in 1929, and married Ann Goyda in 1960. He graduated from Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts and went on to earn two master's degrees, one in Speech & Language Pathology from Penn State.
After college, he was involved in a government sponsored research project at St. Joseph School for the Deaf in the Bronx, NY, in conjunction with Columbia University. He was then employed as a speech pathologist by the Board of Education of Westchester County, NY, and finished his career with the Greenwich County Public Schools in Connecticut. He also maintained an extensive private practice working with reading and learning disabled children in Fairfield County, Connecticut.
He moved to Pisgah Forest in 2000 to be closer to his children and enjoy his retirement in the mountains. He loved gardening and created a beautiful water garden and fish pond behind his home which brought him tremendous joy. He was an active member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, and a regular volunteer at The Bread of Life.
He is survived by his daughter, Christine Dolan of Fairview, NC; his son, Michael Dolan and wife Kim of Brevard; his brother Peter Dolan and wife Ruth of Millbrook, NY; his sister Mary Alice Ross of Yonkers, NY; his grandchildren, Andrew Kocha, Stuart Kocha, and Emily Kocha of Arden, and Benjamin Dolan of Brevard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 2:00 PM at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Brevard. The family requests that memorials be made to The Bread of Life in Brevard, 248 S. Caldwell St., Brevard, NC 28712 or St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 256 E. Main St. , Brevard, NC 28712.
