Brevard - David Lee Erickson, PhD, 73, died, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Transylvania Regional Hospital. He was born in Rochester, MN, on November 11, 1936 to the late Leonard and Vivian Sorenson Erickson.
Mr. Erickson was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. He served in the Wisconsin National Guard and retired as Senior Scientist & Planner for the SE Federal Wildlife refuges. He was also a Professor at the North Carolina State University and University of Kentucky. He received his PhD in Zoology from Ohio State and is a member of the Ohio State Alumni Association and Connestee Fishing Club. He was founder and member of the Climate Change Study Group. Dave was a lifelong conservationist. He wrote many papers about our responsibility for being stewards of the earth.
The trout of North Carolina rest easier today, knowing that "Dave" is casting his fly-rod in the streams of Heaven.
He is survived by his wife; Thelma B. Erickson, his son: Mark M. Erickson and his wife Andrea of St. Louis, MO, a sister: Carolyn Holland of Sedona, AZ, and two granddaughters, Vivian M. and Ava M. Erickson.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 1:30PM at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with Rev. Rich Handschin officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Mission Endowment Fund, 22 Fisher Road, Brevard, NC 28712. This fund makes grants to local charities.
