Our Heavenly Father received Dean Alan Ashenfelder, Jr. into His loving arms Friday, July 16, 2021.
Dean’s parents are Dean Ashenfelder, Sr. and Lori Ashenfelder, who loved him with all their hearts. He was also loved by his grandparents, David Ashenfelder (deceased) and Carol Luttrell, Phil Layton (deceased) and Carol Cingle. He also leaves behind his aunts and uncles: David Ashenfelder, Cindy Ashenfelder, Dwayne Ashenfelder, Christine Taylor, Kristy Simmons (deceased) and Phil Layton II and their families.
Dean was a friend to many and will be greatly missed. Dean entered this world on June 8, 1990. Throughout his life, he was happiest in the outdoors hiking, camping and fishing. DJ was a godly man. Even though he struggled with addiction, his goal was to overcome his dependency and to be able to support others in finding their own recovery.
He had so many talents including crafting handmade rustic furniture and he had an eye for creating beautiful landscapes.
In 2008 Dean joined the United States Army. Graduation from basic training was the proudest moment of his life and that of his parents. During his time in the military, he served as motor transport operator at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
His family remembers him best for his laughter and amazing sense of humor and his love and loyalty to those he cared about. His fun-loving sense of humor kept everyone laughing. He will be greatly missed. Memorial services will be held at Biltmore Church’s Brevard Campus (417 Morris Road) on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 4:30 p.m.
