Denise Hawkins

Denise Ann Hawkins, 68, of Brevard, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. Born in Tampa, Florida, she was the daughter of the late James Arthur and Aida H. Gomis Bilodeau. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Nelson Hawkins; her son, Shane Nelson, and her brother, James E. Bilodeau.

She moved with her family to Cashiers in 1986 and worked as a chef in the Cashiers and Sapphire area for a number of years often serving dishes she had learned from her mother and grandmother who had taught her to cook.

She believed the best meals were always the ones prepared with love.

She enjoyed reading Christine Feehan novels and was an avid gamer, but her greatest joy, other than cooking, was always her family.

Her loving survivors include her children: Sean Nelson, Eric Nelson (Bibi), Melissa Concepcion,  Lindsey Hickman (Dustin), and Robin Nelson (Osego); her grandchildren: Savanna, Cyanna, Erin, Emma, Dillon and Olivia; her great-grandchildren: Zoei and Levi; her mother-in-law Velma Hawkins; and her beloved Chihuahua, Poppi.

Graveside Services for Denise Hawkins will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with Father Shawn O’Neal officiating.

The family would also like to thank Shirley Etters for her tireless efforts as Denise’s caregiver over the past years.
