Don Baynard

Pisgah Forest - William Donald Baynard, 81, died Tuesday, April 23, 2008 at Transylvania Community Hospital.

A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Carl and Evelyn King Baynard. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bruce Baynard and Hicks Baynard, and his sister, Ruth Crouse.

Don was a veteran of WW II, serving in the US Navy as the coxswain on a carpenter ship in the Pacific. He retired from Ecusta in 1989 as a millwright after 41 years. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Boylston Baptist Church. Don had been ill for the past 9 years, suffering from COPD and cancer.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Jo Ann Green Baynard; three children, Keith Baynard of Albany, OR, Lynn Lewis and husband Skip of Baltimore, MD, and Tim Baynard of Pisgah Forest; grandson, Austin Carl Baynard, and step granddaughter, Ceara Stark both of Boiling Springs, SC; brother, Doyle Baynard and wife Wendy of Hawthorne, FL; sister, Eula Gregory and husband Roy of Hendersonville; sister-in-law, Helen Baynard; special nephew, David Baynard; a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Boylston Baptist Church with the Rev. James Burress officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post #88 and VFW Post #4309.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Saturday at Moore Funeral Home.

The family has requested that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boylston Baptist Church bus fund, 9949 Boylston Hwy., Mills River, NC 28759.
