Colonel Donald "Don" Jackson Ashworth

Brevard - Colonel Donald "Don" Jackson Ashworth (USAR ret.) , 65, died after a brief illness on Saturday, February 20, 2010. A native of Brevard and an honor graduate of Brevard High School, he attended NC State University and became a Professional Chemical Engineer serving in the US Army active duty for four years and at an oil refinery in Port Arthur, TX for over thirty years. In addition, he served in the US Army reserve for twenty three years. After retirement, he returned home to Brevard where he was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, PCA and active in the Transylvania County Democratic Men's Club. He was preceded in death by is father, Jack Blanton Ashworth.

Mr. Ashworth is survived by his mother, Nelle Smith Ashworth, his wife of thirty five years, Paula Elizabeth Young Ashworth; daughter, Shannon Alexis Tankersley and husband Timothy William, son; Nicholas Blanton Ashworth and wife Cassandra Dawn, four grandchildren; Savannah Renee Tankersley, Luke Jackson Tankersley, Lilli Belle Ashworth, Elizabeth Michelle Tankersley .

Funeral Services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Moore Funeral Home Chapel at 3pm with the Rev. Andy Silman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private interment at Pisgah Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 AC Skinner Pkwy Suite #100, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
