Doris Jean Scruggs Flynn



Brevard a'" Doris Jean Scruggs Flynn, 78, died Friday, October 31, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC.

A native of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the Lemuel Hampton Scruggs and Maria Tinsley Scruggs and was the wife of the late John Thomas Flynn, Jr.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marguerite Scruggs Fullbright.

Mrs. Flynn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brevard where she was very involved with the youth and was a member of the flower committee. She was a volunteer at Safe Attic and with Welcome Baby of Transylvania Community Hospital. She was a member of the Garden Club.

Surviving are her son, Rick Flynn and wife Kathyrn of Chapel Hill; daughters, Joyce Stephens and husband David of Charlotte, and Mary Ellen Bates and husband Lynn of Corryton, TN; brother, Stanley Scruggs of Monroe; grandchildren, Jonathan Flynn, Joseph Bates, and Thomas Bates; granddogs, Alex and April Flynn, and Champ and Chessie Stephens.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday at the First Baptist Church of Brevard with the Rev. Joe Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Assoc.
