Dorothy Jeane Eskew, 77, of Bakersville, NC (formerly of Hendersonville, NC). She was born on the family property, retired to the home place on the same property and passed away peacefully there on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Ray and Nettie Ruth Gouge Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Randall Eskew and her brother, Charles Grindstaff.
She owned and operated the Woodfield Inn in Flat Rock for many years before retiring to the Bakersville, NC. After retiring she owned and operated Upper Street Café in Spruce Pine, NC.
She was such an inspiration to her family through love, discipline and compassion. She was the foundation that her family was built upon. She took care of her husband, who passed away two weeks prior to her. She was the consummate caregiver.
Her survivors include five children, Cathleen Blanchard of Brevard, NC, Vincent Smith (Tammi) of Mt Pleasant, SC, Randall Smith of Spruce Pine, NC, Lt Col Denise Lennon (Tim Lucas) of Melbourne, FL, Deborah Smith (Jess) of Rockland, Maine; five grandchildren: Christine Fournier, Ryan Smith, Heather Waldrop, Brittany Townsend and Mack Austin Williams; three great grandsons; Brody Smith, Cole Fournier, Maverick Townsend, six great granddaughters; Isabelle Waldrop, Kendall Fournier, Kayden Smith, Olivia Smith, Amelia Smith and Emsley Townsend and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Jeane Eskew will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 19, 2018 in the Chapel of Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations.
Graveside services will be held at Snow Hill Cemetery, Bakersville, NC at a later date.
