Dorothy Galloway

Dorothy Wilde Galloway, 100, of Lake Toxaway, NC, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. Dorothy was born in Transylvania County on June 20, 1916 to the late Joseph and Ethel Wilde. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Boone Galloway; brothers J.A. Wilde, Festus Wilde, Stokley Wilde and Kadez Wilde; and sisters Nellie Owen, Marie McKinney Moody and Oneda Johnson.
Survivors include her sister Exie Henson and her husband Rev. Gene Henson of Easley, SC; daughter Laura Britton and husband Eugene of Savannah, GA, son Joe D. Galloway and wife Iris of Lake Toxaway, NC; three grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Carrol Wilde of Bremen, GA and Jennie Wilde of Brevard, NC.
Dorothy retired from Ecusta Corporation after 34 years of service in the Endless Belt Department. She was a member of North Toxaway Baptist Church where she was a charter member.
While growing up she enjoyed helping her dad with his photography. Before retirement, she started collecting his vintage photos from area families and having them restored and copied. A collection of her photos may be viewed at DigitalNC.org under the Joe Wilde images for Transylvania County.
She enjoyed many hobbies, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor and known by everyone as Nanny Dot.
Funeral Services for Dorothy Galloway will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at North Toxaway Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Sitton officiating. The family will receive friends from 1- 2 pm at the church, prior to the service. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
