Dorothy (Dot) Buchko Souther

Brevard -A long-time Brevard resident, Dorothy (Dot) Buchko Souther, age 84, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Kingsbridge House. Born in Ironwood, Michigan, she married Brevard native George R. Souther in December, 1945. Mrs. Souther was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was active in the Ladies' Guild. She volunteered for many years at Habitat for Humanity thrift store.

Mrs. Souther's survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Bonita and Greg Gorsche of Hillsboro, Oregon; Susan and John Duckett of Indian Trail, North Carolina; and Teresa and Patrick Murphy of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughter Katherine Murphy of Kansas City; sisters, Marge Souther of Brevard and Agnes Brody of Ironwood, Michigan; brother, Stephen Buchko of Ironwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George; mother, Anna; sister, Anne Girga; and brother, Joseph Buchko.

Her Memorial Service will be held at Moore Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 1, 2010. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Alzheimer's Association, 31 College Place, Suite D 320, Asheville, NC 28801.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Kingsbridge House and hospice staff for their compassionate and gentle care of our mother.
