Earl Wade Payne, 89, of Brevard, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2019. A native of Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Perl Wade and Effie Townsend Payne. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother Gary Payne, sister, Sally Burelson and his brother Charles Paul.
A 21 year veteran of the United States Army, he loved his Army family and enjoyed times at reunions. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He and his wife loved to travel and loved their family.
His loving survivors include his wife Mary Lou Payne; their children: Kenneth Payne (Cheryl), Michael Payne, Cynthia Ferrell (Eric) and Linda Stonebreaker (Richard); his sisters: Virginia Hafkemeyer, Betty Jean Williams (Dean), Zola Idol (Joe), and Doris Owenby; and his brother James Payne (Doris), 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was a man loved and cherished by many.
Funeral services for Earl Payne will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, November 30, 2019 in the chapel of Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations with Rev. Dr. Tommy Preslar officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:30 PM. Interment, with Military Rites provided the North Carolina National Guard and the Transylvania County Honor Guard, will be at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest.
