HOMBORDY, Edward Leonard, age 88, of Brevard, North Carolina, passed away June 2, 2017 in Mission Hospital, Asheville, North Carolina. Edward was born August 12, 1928 in Passaic, New Jersey, to Elsa and Steven Hombordy.
He married his first wife Hanna, on December 30, 1950 and worked for American Locomotive in New York before joining the Air Force in 1952. Edward was very proud of his time served in the United States Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He served in many states and countries, including, Colorado, Korea, Alabama, New York, Texas, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, California, Florida for the Cuban Missile Crisis, Japan, Okinawa (a US territory at the time), Thailand, and Delaware, as a transportation officer. Promoted to the rank of Major, he retired in 1972 and moved to California where he would stay for the next 18 years. He taught business at Ventura Community College and Sawyer College for many years. He then moved to Florida to care for his brother. He met his second wife Nancy in Florida and lived there many years before moving to North Carolina.
He enjoyed swimming at the Brevard Health And Racquet Club and visiting his friends there, sitting outside watching the birds and squirrels, whistling, identifying various breeds of milk cows, along with the percent of fat content for each breed, identifying bird calls, walking in the woods, caring for dogs and cats and the fellowship of the Unitarian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first and second wives, and his brother Richard. Edward is survived by his daughters, Ann and Jane of Ohio, his grandchildren, Ariel and Artie of Ohio, his niece Carole and nephew Ricky of California.
