Eileen Fortener

Eileen Frances Fortener, 73, of Pisgah Forest, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2017. A native of Fort Wayne, IN, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Joseph and Dorothy Frances LaFontaine Gase. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her step-mother Lucy Gase.
Eileen was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was very active in church activities including the ladies guild, crafters, thinking of you cards, rosary, funeral luncheons and bell choir. Eileen was a talented artist and Master Gardner. She was a member of and held office with the Transylvania County Art Guild as well as participated in the the Plainaire Painters. She also enjoyed reading and quilting. She loved traveling with her husband to see family and spending time with friends. Eileen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was always there to listen and support, and showed love and compassion to all who knew her.
Her loving survivors include her husband of 51 years, Thomas Fortener; their children: Andrew Fortener (Alisha) and Michelle "Missy" Fortener; grandchildren Holly, Zackery and Ethan Fortener; brother Herb Gase (Judy), sister Sue Miller (Ted) and brother Jim Gase (Tracy).
A Memorial Mass for Eileen Fortener will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brevard with Father Shawn O'Neal officiating.
In Lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her memory at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Brevard, NC. at 100 Brian Berg Drive, Brevard, NC 28712.
