Esma Lister

July 9, 1924 — August 25, 2011

North Carolina

Esma Lister went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 25, 2011. She was born July 9, 1924, the daughter of Allan Dee and Beulah Williams Lister. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Nellie White and Lila Maxcy and her brother, Leon Lister. She is survived by her nephews, Alan, Kyle and Barton Maxcy and Billy and Clinton Williams, and her nieces, Jean Pennington and Mary Lou Ivester. She is also survived by numerous great nephews and nieces and cousins.

She graduated from Mills River High School in North Carolina and worked at Belk's for many years clothing the children of Brevard. If you grew up in Brevard, you knew Esma.

Esma devoted her life to serving her Creator and Savior in all aspects of her life. She allowed God and Jesus to love those she came in contact with at church, at work and at family get-togethers through her. Esma's legacy can be seen through the lives of the people she drew closer to a personal relationship with Jesus. She modeled the servant heart that she had seen in her Savior. She was truly a sold-out servant of our Most High God!!

Esma was a member of Brevard Wesleyan Church for many years, serving as Bible Study teacher, singing in the choir and involving herself in any ministry that needed her special loving touch. Her very special verses were found in Romans 8:1-2, 16, 26-28 and 35-39. Esma loved her God and His Son, her Lord and Savior, more than anything and abided in Him through His Word and through prayer. There is going to be quite a celebration when Jesus and those loved ones who have preceded her in death greet Esma Lister at the East Gate of Heaven!!

A special thank you from the family goes out to God's servants at Tore's Home who have cared for her since May, 2010 and her dear friends, Jimmie Arnett and Sandy Rowe, who have been God's Angels by her side over the last several years. Crowns in Glory await you for the love that you have shown to Esma.

The Celebration Service for Esma will be at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at Brevard Wesleyan Church, with Pastor Dave Blackburn and Pastor Morris Davis officiating. The family and Esma will receive visitors at 10 a.m. at the church before the service. She will be at Moore Funeral Home until Saturday morning's visitation. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church in Landrum, South Carolina where she will be buried beside her mother and father.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in her memory to Brevard Wesleyan Church, 583 North Broad Street, Brevard, NC 28712.
