Frances Hawkins

Frances Loftis Hawkins, 84, of Pisgah Forest, NC died Friday, July 5, 2013.

A native and lifelong resident of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Theodore J. and Edna M. Loftis. She was the last surviving member of her family, preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Dan Hawkins, and three brothers; Jack, Edward and Marshall Lofts and two sisters; Mildred Loftis Wilson and Dorothy Loftis Hamilton.

A 1948 graduate of Brevard High School, she was working at Cassell's 5&10 Store in Brevard when she met Dan, who had been transferred from South Carolina as store manager. After their marriage in 1953, Frances became a stay at home mom to her four children until the early 1970s, when she operated the Pisgah Fish Camp restaurant in Asheville for several years. In her retirement she was most happy while enjoying her flowers, her grandchildren and working jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Dana Hawkins and wife Wanda, of Brevard, NC, Mike Hawkins and wife Claudia, of Brevard, NC, Jeanne Hawkins and partner Shelba Parker, of Asheville NC, and Chris Hawkins and wife Tracy, of Pisgah Forest, NC. Also surviving are six grandchildren Anna Ownbey and husband Krew, of Hendersonville, NC, Chan Hawkins, of Bergenfield, New Jersey, Ben Hawkins, of Asheville, NC, Allison Hawkins, of Raleigh, NC, Tarah Clark, of Asheville, NC, and Stephanie Parker, of Asheville, NC.

A Memorial Service will be held 1:00PM, Saturday, July 13, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Brevard, with Reverend Mike Holder officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
