Frances Allen Liegerot

Brevard - Frances Allen "Frankie" Liegerot passed away January 27, 2011 at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC.

Frankie, as she was known to friends, was born in Sarasota, Florida April 10, 1910, the daughter of Methodist minister William Fletcher Allen, who later became the first Automobile Commissioner of the state of Florida. After the unexpected death of her father in 1929, Frankie and her mother Frances moved to Miami. She attended Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was also a fashion model for Burdines Department Store. She married Denzil P. Liegerot in 1933.

As a member of the First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables Florida for over 60 years, she was active in the Altar Guild and made one of the exquisite needlepoint kneelers in their Chapel. She and her late husband Denzil were Charter Members of the Riviera Country Club in Coral Gables. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Needlepoint and knitting were rewarding hobbies, but without question her favorite activity was playing bridge. She was a Life Master and Bronze Master and remained an avid player until Macular Degeneration made it impossible for her to continue.

Frankie moved to College Walk Retirement Community in Brevard, NC, in 2001 to be closer to family. Always the first to sign up for "dinner outings" and ready to go out to lunch at a moments notice, she remained as active as possible. Friends often remarked that her youthful appearance, sense of humor, and straight bearing made it difficult to believe she had seen her 100th birthday.

Frances was preceded in death by husband Denzil in 1990 and son Denny Allen Sr. in 2009. She is survived by son Richard Jackman and wife Alice of Atlanta, daughter-in-law Tine Phillips Liegerot of Brevard, grandsons Denny Allen Jr. of Brevard and Charles Fletcher and wife Joanne of Brooklyn, NY, great grandchildren Mitchell Allen USAF, Miles Fletcher and Lark Gisele of NY, and dear friend John Lucas.

Services will be held in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church, 536 Coral Way, Coral Gables, FL. Burial will be at Woodlawn Park Cemetery in Miami, Florida Tuesday, February 1, 2011. A Memorial Service at College Walk will take place later in the month.

In lieu of flowers friends are encouraged to make contributions to: Elizabeth House, Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 581 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
