Frances C. "Fran" Waser, 82, of Brevard, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Tore's Home of Brevard. Born November 9, 1934 in Hancock MD she was the daughter of Thomas Roy Creek, Sr. and Helen Angle Creek. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers Thomas Creek Jr. and wife Mary, and Charles Creek; sisters Dorcas Cox and husband Bob, and Dorothea Harvey; and brother-in-law Carl Kallmyer.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years Charles Waser; her sister Bertha Kallmyer, and her sister-in-law Shirley Creek; her children: son David and wife Meg of Holly Springs NC; daughter Gwendy Richmond and husband Tyler of Richmond VA; son Dwight and his wife Diana of Wilmington NC; daughter Marjorie of Winston-Salem NC; and six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Fran served her community as county commissioner for 12 years, including time as chairman. She served as secretary for Givens Estates Board of Directors for over 20 years, and finally as honorary board member. She served as chairman of the Cradle of Forestry in America Interpretive Association at its creation, and as vice-chairman of Land of Sky Regional Council, and as Board of Directors member of Great Smoky Mountains Natural History Association.
For more than 50 years Fran was an active member of Brevard First United Methodist Church, serving there in many ways until dementia interceded.Fran loved her Lord, her family, and her community and demonstrated that love through her many years of dedicated service.
A memorial service with reception following will be held at Brevard First United Methodist Church 325 N. Broad St Brevard NC 28712 at 2:00 PM Sunday November 20, 2016 with the Rev. Mike Holder and Rev. Lauren Sims-Salata officiating.
In lieu of flowers it was Fran's wish that memorials be made to the Generation to Generation Building Fund of her church.
The family extends many thanks to the entire staff of Tore's Home, Inc., for the months of loving care and attention they provided Fran. The family also thanks Hospice staff for their specialized care to their former volunteer, Fran, and for Hospice's professional guidance to the family.
