Fred Jack Fendley, 98, of Brevard, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018. Born in Salem, SC he was the son of the late James Felix and Namma Alexander Fendley. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Constance Fendley; brothers J.C. Fendley, Herbert Fendley and Eugene Fendley; and sister Ruby Mays.
Mr. Fendley served in the U.S. Army during WWII, European Theater of Operations, K Company 329th Infantry as a rifleman and bazooka-man. He saw action in France, Belgium and Germany and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Salem High School and attended Clemson College prior to going to work for Olin. After his time in WWII, we returned to work at Olin (Ecusta) where he worked until retirement.
He is survived by his daughter Sherry Waldrop and husband Larry of Fletcher, NC, and son James Alexander Fendley and wife Sherry of Brevard; grandchildren Keri Alexander Waldrop of Greensboro, NC and Larry Richard Waldrop, Jr and fiancé Jessica Caron of Fort Monroe, VA.; great-granddaughter Maggie Ward of Greensboro, NC; and sister Irene Chapman of Centennial, Colorado.
Graveside Services for Mr. Fendley will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, January 12, 2018 in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with Rev. Paul Smith officiating. military honors will be performed by the North Carolina National Guard and the Transylvania County Honor Guard.
