Fred "Slim" Weaver, Jr., 87, a Peninsula resident for 55 years, died on Monday, November 23, 2015.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from CSX Railroad as a brakeman and conductor after 33 years of service. He also worked for Game's Farmers Market for 22 years.

Survivors include five sons; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and his daughter.

A funeral service will be held at 6 PM Friday, November 27, 2015, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the service. Burial will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest, NC. Military Rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County.
