Frederick P. Outlaw
Frederick P. Outlaw, 79, of Athens, Ga. passed away October 7, 2010. He had a 13 year courageous battle with Huntington Disease. Fred was born in Tampa, Fla., but his family came to Athens when he was five years old. His grandfather, uncle and mother owned Whitmire Furniture Company which operated for many years.
Fred graduated from Georgia Military Academy in 1949. He served on a ship in foreign duty for four years and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1958. While attending the university he met and married Beverly Trantham from Brevard, NC. They met at the Wesley Foundation meeting at First United Methodist Church.
Fred worked at the Athens Housing Authority for thirty one years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church since the age of twelve and had been an active member and served in a number of capacities.
After his retirement he enjoyed being a volunteer for "Meals on Wheels" for thirteen years until his health kept him from continuing. Also, after retirement he loved spending time in the mountains that he dearly loved.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of 52 years, his son Jeff, and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home with Rev. Grady Wigley and Rev. Martha Aenchbacher officiating. Visitation will be he 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Pisgah Gardens in Brevard, NC with Rev. Kerry Purselle officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 327 N. Lumpkin St. Athens, Ga. 30601.
The family wishes to express thanks ands appreciation to many friends, church members, and extended family for all of their prayers and support over the years. A special thank you to St. Mary's Hospice Home Health Care and to Olivia Griffin and Ruby Sewell who nursed him during the last there weeks.
