HAROLD STUART "STU" HICKS
Harold Stuart "Stu" Hicks, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2008 in Brevard, NC. He was born February 26, 1919 in Great Neck, NY.
Stu was predeceased by two wives. He first shared a wonderful life for over 51 years with Marjorie R. Hicks until her death in 1991. Stu was fortunate to have found love again with Josephine Walton Hicks and they were married 11 yrs until her death on January 25, 2008.
Stu is survived by his devoted children: Peter Stuart Hicks of West Palm Beach, FL, Lori Hicks Philips and husband Brian of Brevard, NC. Leslie Hicks Echave and husband Enrique of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Chase and Hunter Philips of Brevard, NC, Gabrielle and Nicholas Echave of Charlotte, NC.
Growing up in New York, Stu spent his leisure time racing Victory sailboats in Long Island, playing hockey, and skiing in the winters. He graduated from Dartmouth University, with a Bachelor Degree and completed course studies in Engineering and Construction at NY University and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
In 1944, Stu served his country in the United States Navy and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. In 1953, Stu moved to West Palm Beach, FL and began work as a builder and contractor. Joining Arnold Construction, he became Executive VP in 1964. In 1970 he left Arnold Construction to start Bryson & Hicks General Contractors. As his success in building grew, he started his own company H S Hicks Construction and later formed Worth Builders. His reputation was for fine craftsmanship and quality construction. Hicks built some of the most beautiful condominiums and private estates in Palm Beach including: the Award winning Lilly Fuller Residence, Blossom Residences, Leverett House, Kirkland House, Sun & Surf and Sloan's Curve.
Although Stu was a resident of WPB, he spent his summers in Lake Toxaway N.C. where he had a home for more than 29 years. He was a member of Mayacoo Lakes CC, and Lake Toxaway CC. He enjoyed tennis, golf and boating with his friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2008 12:30pm at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 211 Trinity Place, West Palm Beach, Florida 33401, with The Rev. Canon Howarth L. Lewis, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
