Harold Odell

Harold (Digger) Odell, 93, died January 19, 2013 in Brevard, NC.

He was born in the Bronx, NYC on April 8, 1919, and was raised and educated in Pleasantville, NY. The son of Cora Hustis and Edward Odell, who died when Harold was an infant. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

A veteran of WWII, he served in China and the CBI for three years with the Signal Corp. Upon his discharge in 1945 he went to work for American Airlines in NYC and as Sales Manager of Westchester County in 1980.

After his marriage to Lois Phillips in St. John's Catholic Church on May 10, 1947, they lived in North White Plains for 39 yrs., where he was active in many civic organizations. He was known for great sense of humor.

They moved to Connestee Falls in Brevard, NC in 1986 where he enjoyed playing golf with his friends for 18 yrs., before moving to College Walk Retirement Community in 2004 he loved to travel and visited the 50 states and many foreign countries. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife of 66 yrs., a daughter & son in law, Kathleen and Robert Matuszak of Eldersburg, MD and his son, John Odell & his wife Maryanne of Malvern, PA. Also his grand- children Melissa Powell & husband Vince of Stewartstown, PA, Robert Matuszak Jr., of Reisterstown, MD, Christopher and Benjamin Odell of Malvern and 2 great-grandsons, Alex & Michael Powell. Also, his special sister-in-law, Helen Pinchbeck of Fort Meyers, FL and several nieces &nephews.

He appreciated the many great nurses & aids that cared for him at The Oaks of Brevard this past year.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
