Harold Walters

Harold L. Walters, Jr., (Hal), 83 of Brevard, North Carolina died on January 15, 2014. Mr. Walters was born in New York City, New York on February 7, 1930, the only child of Harold L. Walters, Sr. and Rose Ellen Dunne Walters. He was raised in New York, West Virginia and Virginia.

Mr. Walters attended Augusta Military Academy where he was valedictorian of his graduating class (1948) before attending and graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland (1953). While in the Navy (1949-57), Atlantic/6th Fleet, his top rank was LT and he served during the Korean War. After leaving the Navy, Mr. Walters received a Master of Science in Administration (MSA) from George Washington University.

Mr. Walters enjoyed successful careers in Business, Industry, Government and Education involving Financial Services, General Management, Public Relations, Communications, Management Engineering, Organizational and Long-range planning, Records Administration Systems and Procedures, Marketing Techniques, Business Administration and Instructing. Hal spent twelve years at IBM Corporation in a variety of roles and then later retired from Merrill Lynch as a financial consultant. He was a Master Mason of The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Florida.

During his retirement, Hal worked as a Business Instructor at South College in West Palm Beach, Florida and a Golf Instructor in West Palm Beach County Schools. In 2000, Mr. Walters relocated to Brevard, North Carolina where he enjoyed volunteering with the VIPS (Volunteer in Police Service for Brevard Police Department and Transylvania County Sheriff's office). Hal's hobbies included golfing and woodworking.

Mr. Walters is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children:
Steven and wife Angie, Lisa Mahlandt and husband Karl, Diane Smith and husband Doug, Andrew and wife Avril, and Scott and wife Brenda; fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and his long-time companion Nancy Booth.
