Helen Cochran

Helen Cochran, 82, of Brevard, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Four Seasons Hospice in Flat Rock, NC. Born February 14, 1933 in Buncombe County, NC, she was the daughter of the late W.K. and Docia Mae Gossett Austin. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Steve Cochran, son Glenn Alan Cochran and her sister Margaret Johnson.

Helen lived most of her life in Transylvania County and was a member of Pisgah Forest Baptist Church where she served as outreach chairperson for the elderly, BYB director and taught Sunday school for many years as well as serving in a number of other positions for the church. She retired from the Soil and Water Conservation Agency. She loved to knit and crochet. She and her husband Steve loved to camp and traveled across the U.S. in their R.V. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She loved everyone and was known for her pound cakes and peanut butter fudge.

Her loving survivors include her sons Greg Cochran of Pisgah Forest and John Cochran and wife Cindy of Pisgah Forest; Five grandchildren: Andrew Cochran, Eric Cochran, Jason Cochran and wife Christy, Nathan and wife Crystal, and Lake Cochran; Six great-grandchildren: Glenn, Helina, Chloe, Daniel, Rylee and Madison; Brothers and Sisters: William Austin and wife Grace, James Austin and wife Carolyn, Christine Hamilton, Harold Austin and wife Louise and JoAnn Norton and husband J.B.

Funeral Services for Helen Cochran will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Pisgah Forest Baptist Church with Rev. David Spray and Rev. Wayne Blackwood officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Elizabeth House, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
