Helen Jane Crais, 99, of Brevard died Sunday, October 7, at the Brian Center. She was born in Topeka, Kansas, lived in New Orleans, LA, Greeley, CO, Atlanta, GA, and for the past 39 years lived in Transylvania County. She attended high school in New Orleans and was married to Henry R. Crais for 56 years. Helen and her husband owned the Red Lion Inn, the Brush and Palette, and the Alley Cat. She was an active member of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) and Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Henry in 1987; her brother, Richard I. Whittaker in 1990; her oldest son, Thomas Henry Crais in 2006.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jane Bennett and Dorothy Ann Reid, both of Brevard; three sons, Henry R. Crais of Monteagle, TN, David Emile Crais of Etowah, and Timothy Martin Crais of Knoxville, TN; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, October 20, at Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Keith Thompson will officiate. The family invites friends to Helen Jane's home at 107 Maple Street following the services.
Memorials may be made to Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church, Blue Monarch (one of Helen's favorite charities), or another charity of your choice.
