Irene Farash

Irene H. Farash, 80, of Brevard, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Pardee Memorial Hospital in Hendersonville. She was born in New York City, New York to Pantelis and Anna Hagicostas. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John (Jack) Farash; her sister Mary Demas and her brothers Nicholas Hagicostas and Peter Hagicostas.

Irene will be best remembered as a nurturer. She moved from New York to Mississippi to support her daughter and son-in-law during their military careers. She was able to provide care for her young grandchildren during their parents' frequent deployments and parenting gaps due to the work demands of a post 9/11 environment. Irene and Jack were chased up to North Carolina due to Hurricane Katrina. Irene's house flooded and her brother Peter's assisted care facility was destroyed. Irene then became the solo care provider of her handicapped brother and husband for the last 10 years of their lives. The "boys" were indeed a mischievous handful; but Irene handled her job with love and grace. Irene was proud of her Greek heritage and well known for cooking Greek specialties, especially Dolmades and Baklava.

She is survived by her children: Dr. Ann E. Farash (Dr. Paul Onnink) of Pisgah Forest and John Farash (Joanne) of Sandlake, NY; her brother Angelo and sister-in-law Photine Hagicostas of Ocean Springs, MS.; and grandchildren John Farash, Mikayla Farash, Ben Onnink and Carly Onnink.

A Funeral Service for Irene Farash will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations in Brevard. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest. The family will receive friends from 10 A.M. until 11 A.M., prior to the service. Irene loved all children.
