James Cassell

James Thomas Cassell, 80, of Brevard, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by is family on Sunday, March 24, 2019. A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late John Coatsworth and Leila Hayes Cassell.

In 1961 Jim married Shirley Ann Cunningham, of Delaware. After working for DuPont for 32 years, Jim retired, focusing his time on his family, wood-working and caring for God's creation through planting and gardening. He touched the lives of many with his Cassell smile and charm. He truly never met a stranger. He will be missed by all who knew him.

His loving survivors include his wife of 57 years, Shirley C. Cassell; children Debbie Devore (Keith) of Horse Shoe, NC and Jimmy Cassell (Jane) of Brevard; grandchildren Michael DeVore (Amanda), Amy DeVore, Trey Cassell and Rachel Cassell; and great-grandson Leo DeVore.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Brevard First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Holder officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church in Brevard at 325 N. Broad Street, Brevard, NC 28712.
