James Mcconnell

James L. McConnell, Retired Musician, Master Chief Petty Officer, 76, of Penrose, NC passed away on September 28, 2013 at the Elizabeth House.

He was a son of the late Margaret Atkinson McConnell and Milton McConnell. He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael and a brother, Bill.

Jim was a member of Etowah United Methodist Church, Etowah, NC.

He was kind, caring, non-judgmental man and loved music, family, gardening and reading. He was a Navy musician for 27 years and in retirement played with many bands including bands in Orlando, FL. He volunteered his time playing with the Brevard Community Band, Hendersonville Community Band, Hendersonville Swing Band and the Wood Wind Choir.

Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Neal McConnell; one son; Timothy McConnell and wife Dawn of Wisconsin, one daughter; Kathleen Trojak and husband Stan of Durham, NC, six grandchildren, Stan, Amber, Kristie, Jay, Karissa and Joshua; five great grandchildren, Austin, Ivy, Teagan, Sydney and Aubrey.

Services will be private.
