Jane McMaster Roehrs, 92, passed away on April 27, 2013 at The Oaks in Brevard, North Carolina.
Born July 12, 1920, to Nelle Elliott McMaster and Kitt Rion McMaster in Winnsboro, S.C., she attended Coker College and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill majoring in English Literature.
She pursued a career in journalism and editing, working for Editor and Publisher and Family Circle magazines, in New York, N.Y., and the University of S.C. Press, Columbia, S.C. In 1963, she became the arts reporter for The Charlotte News in Charlotte, N.C. Moving to Florida in 1975, she became public relations director for The Venice Florida Hospital as well as editor of 'The Sarasota Sounds', the Jazz Club of Sarasota's newsletter. Retiring to western North Carolina in 2004, she pursued her love of reading, writing and wine tasting.
She is survived by her daughter Pamela Roehrs Fry and son-in-law, Richard Fry of Pisgah Forest, N.C., granddaughter Caroline McMaster Fry and step-son Don Pope Roehrs of Denver, Colorado, sisters Nelle McMaster Sprott of Clinton, S.C. and Laurens McMaster Livings of Winnsboro, S.C. and nine nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held in Winnsboro S. C. at a future date. Moore Funeral Home, Brevard, N.C. and Pope Funeral Home, Winnsboro, S.C are handling arrangements.
