Janice Jo Bryson

Janice Jo O’Shields Bryson of Flat Rock went to her heavenly home on July 27, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Janice was born on November 23, 1949 at home in Rosman, NC to Elmer B. and Envilee Chapman O’Shields.  She grew up in Rosman and was a graduate of Rosman High School. 

Janice married Bryan McKee Bryson and they were married almost 45 years before McKee’s death in 2014.  Together Janice and McKee raised their family in Lake Toxaway.  Janice worked for Ecusta Credit Union for 15 years and spent most of her adult life taking care of others as a caregiver.  Janice showed compassion and love to everyone she took care of.  She lived her life always putting others before herself.  She truly had a servant’s heart. 

Janice had a contagious laugh and a smile that lit up the room.  She never met a stranger and with her bigger-than-life personality and sweet southern charm, it would only take a few minutes for her to turn those strangers into friends.  She was an excellent cook and had a gift for decorating.  She could take odd pieces of furniture and would soon have a room looking like it should be featured in a magazine.  She added beauty and elegance to everything she touched.  Janice loved music, especially bluegrass, classic country, and gospel.   She knew the words to almost every old country and bluegrass song ever recorded, and she could always find a song to sing for any occasion she found herself in. 

But most of all Janice loved her family.  Janice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Kenneth Ray O’Shields.  She is survived by her children Kim of Sapphire, Matthew Kale Bryson of Flat Rock and Kendra Lane Bryson of Flat Rock, sister and best friend Barbara O’Shields Ricker and husband Dean of Easley SC, sister-in-law Jean B. O’Shields of Brevard and grandchildren Brady and Kaitlyn.   She is also survived by her niece Stephanie O’Shields and nephews Jeff, Brad, Kyle and Jay Ricker and Joel O’Shields who she loved and adored.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday August 4^th, at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Moore Blanchard Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Aiken officiating.  A private graveside will be conducted at Whitmire Family Cemetery in Quebec.

The family sends a heartfelt thank you to Four Season Hospice and Elizabeth house who provided excellent care and compassion during this time.
