Jo Shepherd

JoAnn N. Shepherd, 78, of Asheville, NC, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville. She was a native of Asheville and the daughter of the late John Richard and Willie Lee Jones Neighbors. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers Tommy Neighbors and George Neighbors; and her sisters Brenda Fowler, Lou Miller and Gloria Sharpe.

A long-time member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, she attended Reynolds High School in Buncombe County. After raising her children, she worked in children's daycare for a number of years. She loved her church and her family, and often enjoyed singing gospel music.

Her loving survivors include her husband of 58 years, Carroll Lee Shepherd; her children Linda Gail Owen and husband Robert of Lake Toxaway, NC, and Kenneth Lee "Kenny" Shepherd of Asheville; grandchildren Christopher Shepherd and wife Amber and Travis Owen and wife Elizabeth; great-grandchildren Owen Shepherd, Gwen Shepherd, Myna Shepherd and Journey Shepherd; her sister Claudette Watson of Asheville; and brothers Autry Neighbors and wife Dora of Greer, SC; Bobby Neighbors and wife Peggy of Asheville, and Jerry Neighbors or Arden, NC.

Funeral Services for JoAnn Shepherd will be at 3:30 pm on Sunday, Oct 1, 2017 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Asheville with Rev. Don Penland and Rev. Autry Neighbors officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:15 pm, prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
