Joan Teague Jackson, 76, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012 at Tore's Home.



She was born to the late Millard Christopher and Kathleen Lominac Teague.



Joan was a member of First Baptist Church Brevard, NC and very active for many years in First Baptist Church of Plantation, FL.  She graduated from Brevard High School in 1954, and from Women's College at University of North Carolina in Greensboro, NC (UNC Greensboro) with a Secretarial Certificate in 1956, she earned a BS from Rollins College in Education and Masters of Education from Nova Southeastern in FL.  She taught for many years in Melbourne, FL, Venice FL and Broward County, FL where she received "Teacher of the Year" at Driftwood Middle School  in Broward County.  She retired from teaching in 1997. She loved her volunteer work at Habitat for Humanity and she enjoyed her antique business with her husband.



Joan is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard  Kimsey Jackson; son, Richard Kimsey Jackson, Jr. and wife Lori of Fort Myers, FL; two daughters, Merry Katherine Pike and husband Richard of Neptune Beach, FL, Susan Elizabeth Taulbee and husband David of Tampa, FL; a sister Jeanette Teague Rhodes of Pensacola, FL; seven grandchildren, Sara Ann Jackson, Todd and Kristi Shealy, Kristin and Kasey Pike,  Katherine and Miles Taulbee; one great grandchild,  Josie; numerous nieces and nephews.



Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Brevard with Rev. Ray Talley and Rev. Tommy Crocker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow in Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Brevard, 94 S. Gaston Street, Brevard, NC  28712 or to Tore's Home # 1, 272 Woodland Terrace, Brevard, NC  28712.
